Listed Buildings

Do you want to make your listed building more energy efficient? We have a range of offers, advice and resources to help.

This is part of the Green Heritage Homes project, which you can find out more about below.

Become a Listed Building Energy Champion

Do you want to make your listed home more efficient, and would you be prepared to share your experience to help others do the same?

We’re currently seeking Listed Building Energy Champions in Bath & North East Somerset to spread the word that you can make listed buildings more efficient.

We’re offering Listed Building Champion Surveys – an expert package of advice on how to make your listed home more energy efficient – at a reduced cost.

Our Surveys

We have two types – one for homeowners and one for landlords – both available to households in Bath & North East Somerset Council.

In both cases you’ll receive advice from both a BWCE Home Energy expert and a B&NES Council Conservation Officer at the same time, giving you a tailored set of recommendations for energy efficiency improvements.

In return, we ask that you share your experience, inspiring others to improve their listed buildings.

Listed Building Champion Survey

Expert in-house energy advice for homeowners with a tailored report recommending the best options for your home. Plus advice from a Bath & North East Somerset Council Conservation Officer.

Listed Building Champion Survey - for landlords

Guidance for landlords on how to improve your listed building’s Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating. Plus advice from a Bath & North East Somerset Council Conservation Officer.

Green Heritage Homes

BWCE’s work on listed buildings is part of our Green Heritage Homes project.

We know there are many ways to conserve our beautiful, listed homes while also saving energy and protecting our climate. Our Green Heritage Homes project aims to demystify this process by bringing together heritage conservation experts and energy experts to provide advice, events and resources.

Green Heritage Homes is managed by BWCE in partnership with Bath and North East Somerset Council, Bath Preservation Trust, the Centre for Sustainable Energy and People Powered Retrofit. It is part of the Local Energy Advice Demonstrator (LEAD) Programme, grant funded by the Department for Energy Security and Net Zero supported by the South West Net Zero Hub.

Listed Building Events

We also offer free events for built environment professionals and listed building owners, to help you gain listed building consent for energy efficiency measures.

  • Listed building owners and professionals are invited to our free webinars, which cover:

    ·      The listed building consent process

    ·      How Conservation Officers assess a listed building

    ·      What this means for energy efficiency measures.

Speakers are from Bath & North East Somerset Council’s Planning Services, BWCE and Bath Preservation Trust.

  • Our Spotlight Sessions consist of a short presentation followed by a bespoke question and answer session in a small group (of up to 15 people) with a Council Conservation Planning Officer and BWCE’s energy expert.

  • We work with various local partners to bring you a series of Open Homes events. You can visit listed homes that have been made energy efficient and hear from homeowners about how they did it.
