What is it?
With energy bills rising and landlord energy regulations likely to tighten, now is the time to improve our energy efficiency. For listed buildings, it’s crucial to consider heritage and energy at the same time.
Our visit, from a Conservation Officer and Energy Assessor, will suggest appropriate measures from a heritage perspective that will be modelled using Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) software by our Energy Assessor, to calculate the impact of these measures on energy bills and your EPC rating.
This will help you select measures, know where you stand with the Minimum Energy Efficiency Standard and inform any applications for listed building consent. In return for this discounted service, we ask that Champions provide an anonymous case study to inspire other landlords. This is part of our Green Heritage Homes project.
Who is it for?
This service is ideal for proactive landlords who want to improve their tenant’s experience and their asset value by reducing energy bills and the damp and mould prevalent in under-heated homes.

FAQs
-
Listed Building Champions receive a visit from both a BWCE Energy Assessor and a Bath & North East Somerset Council Conservation Officer, to provide coherent advice on energy and heritage at the same time. The Conservation Officer will provide‘Service Level 0’ pre-app advice that can inform a standard pre-app or full application for Listed Building Consent.
The B&NES Conservation Officer will visit in their regulatory and advisory capacity as they would on a site visit for a pre-app or listed building application. During the visit, the Conservation Officer may observe alterations to the building and could note any unauthorised work. It is the homeowner’s responsibility to correspond directly with the B&NES Planning & Conservation Team as they see fit on any recommendations relating to unauthorised work. For any further queries relating to unauthorised works, please contact conservation_andplanning@bathnes.gov.uk.
