What is it?
Some householders employ a professional Retrofit Project Coordinator to help project manage their home energy retrofit works.
A Retrofit Coordinator’s job is to help homeowners make their homes more energy-efficient and comfortable. A Retrofit Coordinator can either assist with ad-hoc advice or as full support service. It can be a great option to provide confidence and help save time and money, especially on larger home energy renovation projects.
What does it include?
Our BWCE accredited Retrofit Coordinators can help you manage some, or all, of the following for your project:
-
Home Check-up: The coordinator starts by inspecting your home to see how it currently performs in terms of energy efficiency. They look at things like insulation, heating, windows, and more.
Advice: They provide clear advice on what improvements can be made to save energy, make your home more comfortable and save carbon emissions.
BWCE currently offers initial assessment advice via its Home Energy Efficiency Plans and Futureproof Reports.
-
Customised Plan: Following your initial assessment and advice, the Retrofit Coordinator helps you decide on your preferred way forward and creates a detailed plan for delivery of measures, tailored to your home’s specific needs. This plan outlines exactly what needs to be done and in what order.
-
Project Manager: The Retrofit Coordinator can manage the entire project, working to ensure everything is done according to the plan.
Hiring Experts: They hire the necessary experts, such as designers and installers, to carry out the work.
Check Compliance: Assessment of whether proposed works meets statutory obligations (planning & building control) and safety and quality standards, to mitigate risks.
-
Design Review: The Retrofit Coordinator reviews design proposals to ensure they meet the project’s goals and your home’s specific needs.
Quotation Assessment: They evaluate quotations from different contractors to ensure you get the best value for your money and that costs are in line with the budget.
-
Quality Checks: They regularly check the quality of the work being done to highlight where visible work it is not up to standard.
Keeping Records: They keep detailed records of all the work, so you have a clear history of the improvements made.
-
Review: Once the work is completed, the Retrofit Coordinator reviews everything to make sure it’s working as planned.
Performance Monitoring: They might monitor the home’s performance to ensure it’s achieving the expected energy savings.
Feedback and Adjustments: They gather your feedback and make any necessary adjustments to improve performance.
-
Help and Advice: The Retrofit Coordinator can provide ongoing support and advice on how to maintain and get the most out of your improved home.
Aftercare Services: If any issues arise after the work is done, they help resolve them quickly.
-
Reporting: They provide you with a detailed report of all the work done and the benefits achieved.
Learning and Improving: They use the experience from your project to improve future retrofits, helping others benefit from your experience.
In simple terms, a Retrofit Coordinator acts as your guide and manager throughout the process of upgrading your home. They handle all the details, ensure quality and safety, and provide ongoing support to make the whole process smooth and effective for you.
Retrofit coordination services can be curtailed on the completion of any stage, depending on the level of professional input you require.
Ad hoc advice can be provided on an hourly rate of £70+VAT.
Stage work would be charged at a day rate against an estimated number of days dependent on project size/complexity.
